Spring
As I’m writing, it is a chilly spring day in Upstate New York. The rain is coming down hard and the boys are down stairs competing for who can make the most noise. One is creating melodies on the piano while the other is chasing a T-Rex with a police car.
While the chaos unfolds within the small 1,100 square feet of our house, I am sitting here daydreaming of warmer weather, being outside for a plein air painting event. I’m so ready. This winter was long and cold, we were cooped up in this little house far too much. We are all craving some new outdoor adventures.
I’ve been drawn to landscape painting the last few years, trying to translate my surroundings into my own language, often creating my own little worlds. I think listening to my sons creating their own little worlds has been really impacting how I have been creating too. I have been doing more imaginative painting and less “from real life” painting.
I am currently working on a collection of small “intuitive” landscapes that I am hoping to launch in May. I’ll be sure to let you know when they are live!
Until next time, I hope you take some time to do a little child-like imagining today, I think we all need that from time to time.
